Jharkhand’s Robin Minz: The New Finisher Triumphing in Mushtaq Ali Glory
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy victory, inspired by Ishan Kishan, marked a significant milestone in the early career of wicketkeeper-batter Robin Minz. At 23, Minz played a crucial role in Jharkhand’s dynamic batting lineup that secured the SMAT title last week in Pune.
Minz bolstered his reputation as a fearless and aggressive player by scoring an unbeaten 31 off just 14 deliveries in the final against Haryana. His partnership with Anukul Roy, which added 75 runs for the fourth wicket (off 29 balls), was instrumental in propelling Jharkhand to an imposing total of 262 for three.
During the SMAT tournament, Minz accumulated 166 runs with a remarkable strike rate of 166.75. Though these figures might not be astounding by explosive standards, they were pivotal for his team. His best performance—a robust 58 off 27 balls—came in a crucial match against Rajasthan during the league stage.
“As the designated finisher, I’m pleased to have contributed in a small yet impactful way to our team’s victory,” Minz commented.
In an interview, he stated, “Batting during the key moments of a game is challenging, but embracing it is necessary to be a part of this team. The competition is healthy, especially when there are two wicketkeepers in the squad. I was mentally prepared to embrace the role of finisher. Some days, like the final against Haryana, everything clicks, and you find yourself hitting well from the start. However, I am striving for greater consistency while enjoying this role.”
Reflecting on the tournament, Minz expressed, “Winning the SMAT was incredible and stands as the highlight of my career so far. Ishan bhai brought a lively energy that made a significant impact, ensuring there was never a dull moment in the dressing room. On the field, our unity and determination drove our success.”
Looking ahead, Minz is aiming for impressive performances in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy and has set his sights on making a mark in the Indian Premier League.
