India Penalized for Slow Over Rate in Second ODI Against South Africa

India was fined 10% of its match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against South Africa in the second ODI in Raipur on Monday. South Africa won that match, leveling the three-match series at 1-1. India had previously won the Visakhapatnam ODI to secure the series victory.

Richie Richardson from the Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the penalty after K.L. Rahul’s team was found to be two overs short of the target, even after considering time allowances. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, a five per cent fine of the match fee is levied on players for every over bowled short of the allotted time.

Rahul admitted to the offence and accepted the penalty, negating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal.
