Neser’s Triumphant Gabba Return Marks a Memorable Ashes Spell

Neser Shines Bright in Unforgettable Gabba Ashes Performance

Australian fast bowler Michael Neser expressed his joy over his memorable bowling performance on his home turf in Brisbane, where he secured a five-wicket haul in the second Ashes Test. This remarkable achievement played a crucial role in Australia’s dominant eight-wicket victory on Sunday.

Playing his first Test after three years, Neser broke a vital 96-run partnership between Ben Stokes and Will Jacks, dismissing both batsmen in consecutive overs. Neser concluded his spell with impressive figures of 5 for 42, as Australia bowled out the opposition for 241, securing a lead of 64 runs. This set up an uncomplicated chase, which they accomplished in just 10 overs.

“I’ll cherish this performance forever,” said the 35-year-old during an interview with the host broadcaster. “It’s unforgettable, especially with my family present. I haven’t seen my sister in a year and a half, so I’m excited to catch up with her.”

Neser commended the support from captain Steve Smith, who executed a one-handed catch in the slips to dismiss Jacks, and wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who stood up to the stumps to catch an edge from Stokes.

“This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without Carey’s incredible presence and Smith’s excellent catch at the end,” Neser added. “Carey just knows when to step up. Having a keeper like him is fantastic.”

This match marked Neser’s third Test appearance, his previous one being against the West Indies in Adelaide in December 2022. He replaced Nathan Lyon for the pink-ball Test with regular captain Pat Cummins still sidelined due to injury.

“I adore playing at the Gabba with the support of the fans here. It feels like home,” he shared. “Participating in the Ashes is a dream for any Australian player, and being part of this journey is special.”

With this win, Australia takes a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The third Test is slated to start on December 17 in Adelaide.
