SMAT 2025-26: Yashasvi Shines for Mumbai in Super League, Rohit Sidelined
Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to play for Mumbai in the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26. Fresh off a century in the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, the prominent Indian batsman has notified the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about his intention to join the Mumbai team in Pune on December 11.
“I spoke to him this morning, and he confirmed his availability for the SMAT, and it will certainly be a big boost to the team,” Mumbai’s chief selector Sanjay Patil told Sportstar.
Meanwhile, it seems unlikely that Rohit Sharma will participate in the T20 tournament for Mumbai, as the state association has not yet received confirmation from him.
After its successful group stage campaign in Lucknow, topping Elite Group A, Mumbai will head to Pune for the Super League. However, several sources have confirmed that Rohit has not yet communicated his intentions to the MCA.
Prior to his stint with the Indian team for the Tests and ODIs against South Africa, Jaiswal played in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. The young batter last appeared in the SMAT during a quarterfinal clash in the 2023-2024 season but missed the last edition due to international duties.
Jaiswal has participated in 28 SMAT matches, amassing 648 runs in 26 innings and scoring three half-centuries in the tournament.
