Unprecedented Upset: Alyssa Healy Goes Unsold at WPL 2026 Auction
Australian captain Alyssa Healy went unsold at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 Auction held on Thursday in New Delhi, as no bids were made for her during both the marquee and accelerated rounds.
Healy, the first player to be put up for bidding in the marquee set, did not receive any offers. Her ongoing struggles with injuries seem to have influenced franchise decisions, with teams hesitating to allocate funds and fill an overseas player slot for someone whose recent availability has been inconsistent.
This hesitancy was evident when the 35-year-old again drew no interest during the accelerated auctions later in the day.
Currently, Healy is playing in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for the Sydney Sixers, but has been experiencing a challenging period with the bat, scoring only 65 runs in four innings so far. She missed the last WPL season due to a recurring foot injury that resurfaced during the T20 World Cup in the UAE last year. Previously, she captained UP Warriorz in the first two editions of the league.
In her 17 WPL matches, Healy has accumulated 428 runs, with a notable unbeaten 96 off 61 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first season, which remains the joint second-highest individual score in the tournament’s history.
On the international stage, Healy remains a vital contributor to Australia’s successful era, being part of six T20 World Cup-winning teams and two ODI World Cup victories. She recently led Australia to the semifinals of the 2025 ODI World Cup, where they were defeated by eventual champions India.
