Sahibzada Farhan’s Record Knock Seals Pakistan’s Triumph Over Sri Lanka in Tri-Series 2025

Sahibzada Farhan's Explosive Innings Leads Pakistan to Victory Against Sri Lanka in 2025 Tri Series

Sahibzada Farhan powered Pakistan to an emphatic victory with an unbeaten career-best score of 80 off just 45 balls, as they defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the T20 Tri-series on Saturday.

After opting to bat first, Sri Lanka struggled, posting a modest 128 for seven. This came on the heels of their earlier 67-run loss to Zimbabwe, where they were bowled out for mere 95 runs.

Farhan’s explosive innings, which included five sixes and six fours, led Pakistan to a comfortable victory as they chased down the target in only 15.3 overs, reaching 131-3. This win marked Pakistan’s second consecutive triumph in the series, following a 3-0 sweep of the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

“It was a complete performance with both bat and ball,” remarked Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha. “Farhan is crucial for us because if he stays at the crease for a few overs, he can turn the game in our favor.”

Sri Lanka initially showed promise with Kamil Mishara scoring 22 runs. However, they faltered in the power play, losing wickets quickly including Mishara and Kusal Mendis, leaving them 80-5 in 12 overs. Spinners Mohammad Nawaz (3-16) and Abrar Ahmed (1-28) tightened the game further, taking crucial wickets and stifling the run flow.

Mohammad Wasim showcased sharp fielding with a smart catch, while Nawaz’s bowling was key in dismantling the middle order, even bowling captain Dasun Shanaka. Despite Janith Liyanage’s unbeaten 41 off 38 balls, Sri Lanka struggled to accelerate at the death.

In response, Farhan’s aggressive start helped set the pace, alongside an contribution of 47 runs in the first five overs. Despite losing partner Saim Ayub for 20, Farhan established a 69-run partnership with Babar Azam, whose contribution with 16 runs provided stability.

Though Dushmantha Chameera managed to take two late wickets, including Babar and Salman Ali Agha, Farhan sealed the match with a resounding straight six off Malinga, surpassing his previous T20 scoring record.

Sri Lanka’s captain Shanaka expressed disappointment with their performance, citing difficulties in adapting to the pitches. Yet, he remains optimistic about the team’s potential improvement.

Pakistan’s next match in the series is against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
