In a significant boost for Mumbai, both Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube will participate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which is set to kick off next week.

Mumbai’s chief selector, Sanjay Patil, confirmed this news to Sportstar, stating, “I spoke with Surya this afternoon, and he assured me that he will be available for the entire tournament. The same goes for Shivam. We will finalize the team on Friday…”

There is speculation that Suryakumar Yadav might lead Mumbai’s T20 side if he participates in the tournament. However, chief selector Raju Patil mentioned that no final decision has been made yet.

Shardul Thakur has successfully captained Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, with the team currently leading Group D.

Although India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube will join the Mumbai squad traveling to Lucknow, they are unlikely to participate in all group matches due to India’s T20I series against South Africa starting on December 9.

Patil stated, “We will discuss tomorrow and decide on the future course of action. For now, we are selecting the team with the understanding that both Surya and Shivam will be available.”

He also clarified that there are currently no plans to promote Sarfaraz Khan to the position of opener in the T20 team. The final decision will be made by the team management after evaluating the situation in Lucknow.

Mumbai’s campaign is set to commence against Railways on November 26.
