Renegades Triumph as Rodrigues’ Struggles Continue Against Heat in WBBL 2025

Forged in Fire: The Aussie Influence on Kohli's Cricket Legacy

Jemimah Rodrigues made a quiet return to competitive cricket following her World Cup triumph, scoring just six runs in Brisbane Heat’s seven-wicket loss to Melbourne Renegades in the Women’s Big Bash League on Sunday.

In her first match since India’s historic ODI World Cup victory last week, Jemimah was keen to make an impression but was dismissed after nine balls by edging Alice Capsey to Deandra Dottin at backward point.

Despite her subdued performance, Rodrigues’ presence brought star power to the event. Brisbane Heat shared a video on their X handle, showcasing a cheerful Jemimah heading to the pitch, exclaiming, “I am here in Brisbane, can you believe it? Very excited for today, let’s go.”

Her early dismissal was a setback as Heat managed only 133 in their 20 overs. Nadine de Klerk (40 off 38 balls) and Chinelle Henry (29 off 22) put up some resistance, yet the Renegades’ spinners dominated. Skipper Georgia Wareham (3/12) and Capsey (3/22) were instrumental in the middle overs, while Tess Flintoff (3/30) curtailed any late efforts.

Chasing a revised target of 66 runs in 8 overs due to rain, the Renegades reached it in 7.3 overs. Courtney Webb led the chase with an unbeaten 34 off 22 balls, supported by skipper Wareham, who remained not out on 16.

Brief Scores:

Brisbane Heat Women 133 in 20 overs (Nadine de Klerk 40, Chinelle Henry 29; Wareham 3/12, Capsey 3/22, Flintoff 3/30) lost to Melbourne Renegades Women 66/3 in 7.3 overs (Courtney Webb 34, Wareham 16 not out; Ginger 2/16, Hamilton 1/18).
