Shubman Gill: A Versatile Cricket Prodigy in All Formats, Says Shane Watson
Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has praised Shubman Gill as “ridiculously talented,” expressing confidence in Gill’s ability to adapt across different formats and deliver high scores for India. Despite being India’s Test and ODI captain, Gill has not had significant scores in the ongoing white-ball series against Australia, recording scores of 10, 9, and 24 in the ODIs, and 37 not out, 5, and 15 in the T20Is.
Watson emphasized that making adjustments takes time and involves trial and error, especially when playing in varied conditions. He believes that Gill’s exceptional technique will soon enable him to navigate different formats successfully.
Gill arrived in Australia following an impressive performance against the West Indies, where he scored a century and a half-century in two home Tests. Watson acknowledged the challenge of switching formats but noted that it becomes easier with experience.
The 44-year-old, who played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20Is for Australia from 2002 to 2016, also lauded India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma for his impressive form in T20 cricket. Watson described Sharma as a “treat to watch,” praising his fearless approach and adaptability.
Watson remarked on Sharma’s progress over the past few years since his debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad, noting his ability to handle different bowlers and conditions with a versatile range of shots.
