Abhishek Sharma Comments on Unexpected Bounce Troubling India’s Batters in 2nd T20I Against Australia

Abhishek Sharma Analyzes India's Struggle with Surprising Bounce in 2nd T20I vs Australia

India’s opener Abhishek Sharma acknowledged that the team’s batting lineup was unexpectedly challenged by the extra bounce and disciplined bowling in the second T20I match against Australia on Friday.

In his first international series in Australia, Abhishek noted that they were prepared for pace and bounce but were still taken aback by how well the Australian bowlers harnessed these conditions. Despite top-scoring for India with a gritty 68, the team ultimately lost by four wickets.

“The issue is that many players, including myself, are touring here for the first time,” Abhishek mentioned during the post-match press conference. “We were aware of the extra bounce and pace, but their disciplined line and length surprised us. They deserve credit for that.”

He further explained that the team’s initial aggressive strategy had to be adjusted after losing early wickets. “We intended to dominate early on, but things didn’t go as planned. When wickets fall quickly, every batter needs to play responsibly for the team. The pitch was tough, making it challenging to hit shots,” he said.

Abhishek also commended lower-order batsman Harshit Rana for his calm and adaptable performance under pressure, as they partnered for a 56-run stand for the sixth wicket. “I knew Harshit could bat well—he often hits sixes against me in the nets. He suggested we play more steadily, which was beneficial. Our right-left combination was effective, which is why he batted before Shivam Dube,” Abhishek explained.

Reflecting on his fearless batting style, the 24-year-old attributed his confidence to the support from the team management. “I try to put pressure on the bowler when I play. This strategy has its ups and downs, but my captain and coach have always backed me. Their support to play my natural game boosts my confidence,” he said.

Abhishek also discussed how his mindset has changed since his previous appearances with the national team. “After the Zimbabwe series, I was overthinking. However, the captain and coach’s encouragement to play freely clarified my approach. I enjoy it more when I play my shots and contribute to the team’s victory,” he said.

He embraced the challenge of facing Australia’s fast bowlers on lively pitches. “As a batsman, you aim to face world-class bowlers. Some deliveries were unexpectedly challenging—something I haven’t encountered in T20s before. But I enjoyed facing the challenge,” he said.
