West Indies Clinch T20 Series with Narrow Victory Over Bangladesh
Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosain took three wickets each to help West Indies secure a 14-run victory over Bangladesh in the second Twenty20 match on Wednesday, clinching a decisive 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Bangladesh, chasing a target of 150, ended their innings at 135-8, after West Indies posted 149-9. Pace bowler Shepherd played a crucial role by dismissing opener Tanzid Hasan, who was the top scorer for Bangladesh with a 48-ball 61. Jason Holder contributed significantly, taking 2-20 and restricting the home team’s batsmen.
Holder made the initial breakthrough by taking the wicket of opener Saif Hassan (5), while left-arm spinner Akeal Hosain removed Liton Das for 23.
Despite dropping four catches, West Indies managed to trigger a collapse from Bangladesh’s 85-2, thanks to Shepherd’s dismissal of Tanzid and Jaker Ali (17) in the same over.
West Indies themselves faced a setback after reaching 106-1 in 11.2 overs. Pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman claimed 3-21, while spinners Nasum Ahmed (2-35) and Rishad Hossain (2-20) also contributed to the bowling attack.
Shai Hope led the West Indies batting, scoring 55 off 36 balls with three fours and three sixes. Opener Alick Athanaze supported with a strong performance, hitting five fours and three sixes to score 52 off 33 deliveries. Together, Hope and Athanaze put on a 105-run partnership for the second wicket.
