Shardul Thakur Aspires for a Comeback in India’s White Ball Squad

Shardul Thakur Eyes Return to India's Limited-Overs Cricket Squad

Shardul Thakur, who was part of India’s Test squad during the England tour, has been absent from white-ball cricket for a couple of years.

Despite this, he is optimistic about making a comeback to the limited-overs team ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, by delivering consistent performances in domestic cricket.

“The key for me is to keep playing matches and performing well. To return to the Indian team, I need to continue delivering match-winning performances, which will aid in my selection,” Shardul commented on Tuesday.

As the captain of Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy this season, Shardul’s start has not been remarkable, with only three wickets in the first two matches and a total of 38 runs across three innings. Yet, with a long season ahead, he remains hopeful that circumstances will improve, allowing him to secure a place as an all-rounder in India’s ODI squad.

“The ODI World Cup will be in South Africa, which could open up a spot for a bowling all-rounder at No. 8, and that’s the position I am targeting,” he explained, adding: “In terms of preparation, I am ready to play international cricket if called upon tomorrow.”
