West Indies Triumph in Super Over Thriller After Spinners Dominate

Spinners Set Stage for West Indies' Super Over Heroics

In a historic match on Tuesday, the West Indies employed 50 consecutive overs of spin bowling in their second ODI against Bangladesh, marking the first instance of such a feat in one-day international cricket. The West Indies clinched victory through a nail-biting super over, evening the three-match series at 1-1.

The match, featuring a record-breaking 92 overs of spin, surpassed the previous high of 78 overs. Bangladesh, batting first in Mirpur, was restricted to 213 for seven. In response, West Indies matched the score at 213-9 at the end of their innings and ultimately triumphed by scoring 10 runs in the super over.

Five West Indies spinners, having omitted pace bowlers Jayden Seales and Romario Shepherd, each delivered 10 overs. The bowling attack was spearheaded by left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who claimed three wickets for 65 runs. Alick Athanaze impressed with figures of two for 14, while Akeal Hosein also took two wickets, conceding 41 runs. Roston Chase and Khary Pierre completed the spin assault, giving away 44 and 43 runs respectively, as the team chose not to utilize their sole pace bowling option, Justin Greaves.

This strategy broke the previous record held by Sri Lanka, which set a benchmark of 44 overs of spin in a game in 1996. On Bangladesh’s side, fast-medium bowler Mustafizur Rahman conceded 40 runs in his eight overs, with the remaining five bowlers all being spinners.
