Prithvi Shaw found himself in an avoidable skirmish with his former Mumbai teammates on Tuesday in Pune. The ex-India and Mumbai opener, now playing for Maharashtra, furiously confronted Musheer Khan following his remarkable century against his previous domestic team.

Shaw reportedly escalated the situation by attempting to lift his bat and grab the Mumbai spinner’s collar after being heavily sledged during the first day of the three-day friendly match between Mumbai and Maharashtra at the MCA Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.

Opening the innings, Shaw played a magnificent knock of 181 from 220 deliveries, featuring 21 fours and three sixes, while sharing a massive 305-run opening stand with Arshin Kulkarni. Kulkarni also delivered an outstanding century, scoring 186 from just 140 balls, with 33 fours and four sixes, after Maharashtra opted to bat first.

Sources from both camps confirmed the incident unfolded shortly after Shaw’s dismissal, with Maharashtra at 430 for three. He was caught by Irfan Umair off Musheer Khan at the square leg boundary in the 74th over. Subsequent to his dismissal, Musheer is suspected to have taunted him by saying “Thank you.”

After achieving a brilliant century, Shaw apparently took exception to the send-off, which sparked the altercation. Video evidence showed an on-field umpire intervening to calm Shaw and guide him away from the Mumbai players.

“It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all settled now, and there are no issues,” remarked Ankit Bhawne, the captain of the Maharashtra side. At the time of this report, neither the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) nor the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) had escalated the matter.
