The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is on the brink of appointing its first female director. The National Sports Council plans to replace M Isfak Ahsan, currently representing the sports regulatory board, with a woman.
On Monday, Aminul Islam was re-elected as BCB president. However, shortly after announcing the 25 directors, the NSC decided to withdraw Isfak’s name. “A female representative is expected to be nominated to replace Isfak on the board,” a BCB official told Cricbuzz.
In his first press conference after the election, Aminul expressed intentions to include women as directors to enhance gender balance within the board.
“Look, cricket laws evolve annually. As such, playing conditions change, but our constitution remains static. We’ll strive for some changes,” Aminul declared post-election.
“The most significant change needed is reducing male dominance in our board. We need female directors for gender equality and independent directors. That’s where our efforts will focus,” he emphasized.
Aminul reiterated that his decision to remain as president is driven by his unwavering passion for cricket development in the nation.
“I’ve developed a deep affection for Bangladesh cricket’s growth,” he remarked. “Initially, it was a short-term plan, but witnessing success through small initiatives made me stay, aiming to serve my country further.
“Our focus is cricket above all. Our commitment, Inshallah, will be unwavering in advancing the sport,” he stated.
Bulbul urged all stakeholders to contribute to Bangladesh cricket, regardless of their board affiliation.
Recently, Tamim Iqbal withdrew from the elections citing government interference, with several club officials protesting the election’s fairness.
“Regardless of board composition, we invite everyone to collaborate in forwarding Bangladesh cricket. It’s a shared national treasure, and we’ll reach out to protesting clubs for cooperation.
“The board’s sole mandate is advancing Bangladesh cricket, our collective goal,” he concluded.
