Indian Speedster Kranti Goud Aims for Higher Velocity in 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup Against Pakistan
Some stories about life coming full circle are truly remarkable.
Kranti Goud made her international debut at the R. Premadasa Stadium in May during the Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka, which also included South Africa. Although she didn’t take any wickets in that match, her potential was evident.
Fast forward five months, and the 22-year-old has already claimed 18 wickets in just nine ODI matches. She has earned the trust of the selectors over more seasoned players and has shown notable skill with the bat against formidable teams like England and Australia.
Kranti once again put on a stellar performance with a match-winning display against Pakistan in the Women’s ODI World Cup at the same venue where she had debuted.
In her hometown of Ghuwara, Madhya Pradesh, villagers gathered on the field where Kranti played as a child to watch her take three pivotal wickets—Sadaf Shamas, Aliya Riaz, and Natalia Pervaiz—disrupting Pakistan’s pursuit and paving the way for India’s 88-run victory.
During her second spell, Kranti explained, “The captain wanted to remove the slip because the ball was old, but I insisted on keeping it as I felt I could take a wicket. That’s exactly what happened. I had that faith.”
Kranti also shone with the bat, hitting two quick boundaries to maintain momentum for Richa Ghosh, who helped India reach a total of 247.
“Richa advised me to go for shots if the ball was in my range or at least rotate the strike. There were only a few overs left, and they kept bowling in my zone, so I hit them for fours. Even when I got out, I thought I could clear the boundary. I hope to continue contributing with the bat in future matches,” Kranti said with a broad smile.
