Aminul Islam, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), asserted that he perceives no governmental interference in the upcoming BCB elections slated for October 6. Aminul, who succeeded Faruque Ahmed, concluded his tenure on Sunday (October 5). He refrained from commenting on candidates who withdrew from the election race.
Previously, Tamim Iqbal withdrew from the elections citing government interference after 15 clubs were prohibited from participating. However, a court ruling on Sunday permitted these clubs to partake in the polls.
“The sports adviser made efforts day and night to ensure a fair election and form a proficient board. I don’t detect any government influence,” said Bulbul, speaking to the press at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Regarding boycotts, he remarked, “Participation decisions are personal matters. I choose to focus on processes aligned with the Constitution and the Election Commission, avoiding external discussions.”
He continued, “I’ve realized how rapidly situations evolve—every hour brings change. There are still around 20 hours before the vote; we’ll see what unfolds. The Election Commission is best suited to comment on the voting process’s integrity. It’s my first experience, and fluctuations seem customary.”
Aminul expressed gaining substantial insights during his tenure and feeling equipped for long-term responsibilities on the board.
“Understanding the team’s value is a significant achievement. Even with limited preparation time, our team, inclusive of directors and officials, excelled in launching major programmes. Teamwork is my greatest accomplishment,” he articulated.
“Over the past four months, I have achieved several milestones with the complete support of Bangladesh Cricket Board’s directors, staff, and officials. Improved communication remains a personal goal,” he added.
BCB Director Najmul Abedin highlighted a robust network established across the nation. “Visible progress is evident, along with unseen efforts. Nationwide communication with all 64 districts was developed long before this election,” stated Najmul.
“This network marks a significant, though not immediately visible, achievement. Collaborative discussions with the government have spurred advancements in infrastructure,” he noted.
Soumya Sarkar Excluded from T20I Series Due to Visa Issues
Najmul confirmed Soumya Sarkar’s exclusion from the three-match T20I series due to visa issues, with Naim Sheikh awaiting UAE clearance.
Cricbuzz earlier reported Soumya’s likely absence due to visa delays.
The BCB cricket operations chairman explained, “All visa documents were submitted promptly. Naim Sheikh’s visa is also pending. Had Soumya’s visa arrived by night, he was prepared to fly. However, with the final T20 today, travel is futile. It’s regrettable.”
“Securing UAE visas is increasingly complex, preventing firm assurances,” he mentioned.
The ODI series against Afghanistan begins Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. If delays persist, Bangladesh might commence the series without opener Naim Sheikh.
