Heartbreak at 197: Jagadeesan’s Near-Miss Stuns Duleep Trophy 2025
Tamil Nadu’s wicketkeeper-batter N. Jagadeesan narrowly missed achieving a double century for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinal against North Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence on Friday, falling just shy at 197 runs. At the time of his run out, Ricky Bhui was his partner at the crease.
At 29, Jagadeesan was close to securing what would have been his third double century in First-Class cricket. His personal best remains an impressive 321 runs, scored against Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy in 2024. To date, only 10 players have recorded double centuries for South Zone.
Despite not reaching the milestone, Jagadeesan has maintained his excellent form. In the previous Ranji Trophy season, he scored 674 runs across 13 innings, averaging 56 and including two centuries and five half-centuries.
Jagadeesan’s stellar performance has also led to his selection as a replacement for Rishabh Pant in the Indian team for the fifth Test in England.
