IND vs PAK: India Declines Asia Cup Trophy Presentation by Mohsin Naqvi

IND vs PAK: India Skips Asia Cup Trophy Ceremony Led by Mohsin Naqvi

India, under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav, declined to receive the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council president and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, following their victory in the final against Pakistan on Sunday.

India secured the continental title for the ninth time by defeating Pakistan with a five-wicket win in the decisive match.

After the tightly contested game, Pakistan’s players caused a delay in the post-match presentation for more than an hour after the final ball. Mohsin Naqvi, who was expected to present the trophy to the winning team, also waited for the runner-up ceremonies to conclude.

During the presentation, host Simon Doull mentioned that Naqvi would be presenting the runners-up medals to the Pakistan team; however, it was Bangladesh’s Aminul Islam who ultimately distributed them. Naqvi did hand over the runner-up cheque to Pakistan’s captain, Salman Agha.

Doull later announced that the Indian players had chosen not to accept their medals and the trophy, leading to an abrupt end to the presentation ceremony.

Prior to the match, various news outlets reported that the Indian team intended to reject the trophy from the head of the Pakistan board.

Throughout the tournament, India had declined traditional post-match handshakes with the Pakistani players. At the coin toss, Suryakumar chose not to greet Salman, and players Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh followed suit by not participating in the customary handshakes after the final match.
