Harleen and Harmanpreet Star as India Women Dominate New Zealand in Warm-Up Clash
Half-centuries by Harleen Deol and captain Harmanpreet Kaur guided India Women to a comfortable four-wicket victory (via DLS method) over New Zealand in their second and final warm-up match for the Women’s World Cup in Bengaluru.
The duo established a crucial 132-run partnership for the third wicket, steering India towards New Zealand’s rain-adjusted target of 237 runs in 42 overs.
Uma Chetry and Pratika Rawal provided a swift start, achieving a fifty-run opening partnership within the ninth over. By the time both were dismissed, India had reached 71 runs by the tenth over.
Subsequently, Harleen and Harmanpreet took command, maintaining a steady flow of boundaries to manage the required run rate effectively. New Zealand faltered in the field, dropping several catches, including a couple by Eden Carson at point.
Harleen retired out on 74, after which India lost a few wickets in quick succession, but the foundation for victory had already been laid. Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma secured the win with 10 balls remaining.
Earlier, Kranti Goud took two wickets in the first eight overs, dismissing both New Zealand’s openers. A resilient partnership between Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr helped rebuild the innings. However, left-arm spinner Shree Charani dismissed both set batters, bringing India back into contention.
Maddy Green fought valiantly with a 42-ball 49, but with wickets tumbling around her, New Zealand was restricted to 233. Charani claimed three wickets, and part-timer Pratika took one, easing India’s path to a successful chase.
