Pandya’s Asia Cup Final Spot in Doubt, Abhishek Declared Fit
India’s cricket team will evaluate Hardik Pandya’s fitness ahead of the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, according to India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel. This announcement came after India’s last Super Four match against Sri Lanka. During the game, Hardik left the field holding his hamstring after taking a wicket in his opening over. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma also exited the field but is reportedly fine.
Morkel stated, “Both Hardik and Abhishek experienced cramps. We’ll evaluate Hardik tonight and tomorrow morning. Abhishek is okay.” Hardik’s absence in the final could disrupt India’s team balance as he plays a dual role as a finisher and a second seamer.
India maintained their perfect record with a victory over Bangladesh, thanks in part to Hardik’s crucial 29-ball 38 runs, despite not scoring heavily throughout the tournament.
The 31-year-old has accumulated 48 runs and claimed four wickets so far. Without Hardik, either Arshdeep Singh or Harshit Rana might have to step in, which could weaken India’s batting depth. Both have struggled, conceding 100 runs in eight overs against Sri Lanka and 62 runs in seven overs against Oman during this tournament.
Morkel acknowledged the impact of limited game time on Arshdeep and Rana’s performances but emphasized their ongoing commitment in training.
For the final clash, pace leader Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Shivam Dube, who rested against Sri Lanka, will rejoin the playing XI.
