Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav has been fined 30% of his match fee following comments made after the Asia Cup group league match against Pakistan, referencing the military skirmish between the two nations in May, officials announced on Friday.
Reports suggest India (BCCI) has contested the ICC’s ruling. “The ICC will withhold any official announcements regarding the sanctions until the tournament concludes,” a source mentioned.
A formal statement might be released on Monday, ahead of the tournament final scheduled for Sunday.
Pakistan lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Suryakumar for his political remarks after dedicating his team’s victory over their rivals on September 14 to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian armed forces.
Suryakumar has pleaded not guilty and has been urged not to make any statements that might be interpreted as political throughout the remainder of the tournament.

The hearing for the Indian skipper was conducted by ICC match referee Richie Richardson.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated, beginning with India’s decision to refrain from the customary handshake with Pakistani players both at the toss and after matches, as a gesture of solidarity with the victims of Pahalgam.
Twenty-six people were killed in the April attack, which India alleges was backed by Pakistan. In response, India initiated Operation Sindoor in May to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.
